DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team blanked its third consecutive opponent today with a 2-0 decision over Hamline University at Saints Field.

The Saints remain unbeaten on the year with an 8-0-1 overall record. With a win or tie against the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday, the Saints would match the longest unbeaten streak to start a season in program history. The Pipers fall to 4-6-1 on the campaign. CSS is 13-7-0 all-time against the Pipers and 3-0-1 against the Minnesota-Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season.

St. Scholastica put the pressure on early and got the first goal a little over seven minutes into the contest when freshman #Erik Trochimchuk# (Fr.-Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold) scored his fourth goal of the season. #Toby Peter# (Jr.-Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach) and #Dustin James# (Jr.-Superior, Wis.) had the assists.

In the 27th minute, the Saints added to their lead when #Brandon Stemwedel# (So.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) intercepted a pass and went to score his second goal on the year to make it 2-0 at halftime.

It was all CSS in the second half, outshooting the Pipers 8-2. #Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) made a nice save in the 71st minute to preserve his fifth shutout of the season as St. Scholastica went on to win 2-0.

The Saints out-shot the Pipers 16-8 in the match. Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) also earns his eighth win of the season for CSS. Zach Nelson had nine saves in the loss for Hamline. Both teams finished with 13 fouls in the match.

The Saints will be back in conference action this weekend for big match against the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday and then Presentation College on Sunday. The Saints fell to both of those teams last season. The Morris contest will get underway at noon on Saturday.
