DULUTH, Minn. – In a defensive struggle, the Saints men's soccer team prevailed over the visiting Martin Luther College Knights on Friday afternoon by a final score of 3-0.

With Martin Luther playing a tough defensive style, scoring would be at a premium, but CSS was able to finally get on the board with a late-first half goal as #Toby Peter# (Jr.-Spalt, Germany) put one past the 'keeper with just over a minute left in the half. He got assists from #Erik Trochimchuk# (Fr.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) and #Joey Maida# (So.-Duluth, Minn.).

The second half saw the Saints on the offensive, taking Xx shots while netting two additional goals. Trochimchuk scored the first at the 53:51 mark with assists from Peter and #Cody Sveiven# (Jr.-Coon Rapids, Minn.).

#Jimmy Atol# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn.) scored the game clincher – his first of the season – with just over 20 minutes remaining with assists going to #Geofrey Kalanzi# (Jr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) and #Bryan Olson# (So.-South St. Paul, Minn).

Goalkeeper Alex Vandenberg was solid in net for the Knights, making seven saves, but #Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England) earned the shutout to improve his and the Saints' record to 6-0-1 on the season, as well as 4-0-0 against the UMAC.

The still-undefeated Saints will host Bethany Lutheran College tomorrow on Saints Field for Homecoming. The match is scheduled to begin at Noon.
