MOORHEAD, Minn. – #Joey Maida# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored two goals, including the game winner in the 74th minute, as the St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated Concordia-Moorhead this evening 2-1.

The Saints improve to 3-0-0 for the first time since the 2004 season. The Cobbers fall to 2-3-0. CSS is 8-9-0 all-time against Concordia-Moorhead and have won the last three meetings.

Maida, who just had one career goal coming into today got the Saints on the board early when he scored on a header 5:19 seconds into the game. #Asos Amin# (So.-Vasteras, Sweden) and #Jermaine Dacres# (Jr.-Nottingham, England/Causeway) had the assists. Less than five minutes later, the Cobbers tied it up with a goal coming from Philip Brockbauer.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until the 74th minute when Maida scored from the top of the box to give the Saints the lead. CSS goalkeeper #Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) made one save in the final 10 minutes to preserve the 2-1 win for the Saints.

In an evenly played match, both teams had 12 shots. Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) stopped three shots to earn the win for the Saints. Mads Schmidt had the loss for the Cobbers, stopping four shots.

The Saints get back to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action next weekend when they travel to Northwestern College on Friday and Crown College on Saturday. The Eagles and Saints kickoff at 2 p.m. on Friday.
