CSS TRACK & FIELD BREAKS SIX RECORDS AT MINNESOTA OPEN

MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Minnesota Open, hosted by the University of Minnesota today and would break six records on the day.

#Wendell Booth# (Fr.-Deer River, Minn./Grand Rapids) was the only male Saint to break a program record, but he also set a NCAA provisional qualifying mark by leaping 23'-2.5” (7.07m) in the long jump to finish third behind two Division I athletes.

For the women, #Alex Aarestad# (Jr.-Halstad, Minn./Oak Grove) set a program mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.99 seconds as she was the top Division III finisher. #Stacey Peterson# (Jr.-Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) beat her own school record from last week in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.99 seconds.

#Nicole Hughes# (Fr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) ran a program-best time of 2:20.12 seconds in the 800-meter run. #Tara Connolly# (Jr.-River Falls, Wis.) also broke the previous school record in that event with a time of 2:21.27 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay team of Peterson, #Katie Walrath# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn.), #Tasha Hanson# (Fr.-East Grand Forks, Minn.), and #Samantha Johnson# (Fr.-Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) also set a school record time of 50.58 seconds to finish second. #Alec Seeley# (Fr.-Cadott, Wis.) was the last CSS member to break a record as she threw a distance of 132'-5” (40.36m) in the hammer throw.

The Saints will compete at the Wisconsin Twilight, hosted by the University of Wisconsin tomorrow.
