MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team finished off the season series with Bethany Lutheran College with a 9-0 victory this afternoon at the Mankato Athletic Tennis Center.
The Saints improve to 11-7 overall and to 4-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Vikings fall to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Saints have won 65 straight UMAC matches.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of #Danni Sonnenfeld# (
So.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) and #Lynnae Wilke# (
Sr.-Parkers Prairie, Minn.) won 8-3. The No. 2 team of #Angela Shields# (
Jr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) and #Brooke Aho# (
Jr.-Long Prairie, Minn.) won by a score of 8-2. The No. 3 team of #Ali Bernst# (
Fr.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) and #Liz Coyne# (
Fr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) also did not have any trouble with an 8-1 victory.
The singles action was a little tight with three matches going to three sets, but the Saints still took all six matches. At the No. 1 flight,
Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) went to three sets, but prevailed 3-6, 6-4, 6-5.
Angela Shields (Pengilly, Minn./Greenway HS) won at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-0.
Lynnae Wilke (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie HS) also won in straight sets at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-2.
Brooke Aho (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie) went to a third set super tiebreaker at the No. 4 flight and went on to win 6-2, 6-7, (10-7).
Liz Coyne (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) also went to a super tiebreaker at No. 5 singles and won 6-3, 4-6, (10-8).
Ali Bernst (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold HS) won in straight sets at the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-1.
The Saints will be at Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
