DES MOINES, Iowa – The St. Scholastica men's and women's track & field teams had some members take part in the 100th Drake Relays over the last three days and in doing so broke four school records.
On Thursday, #Katelyn Meger# (
Jr.-Webster, Minn./New Prague) competed in the 10,000-meter run and finished 14th on a hot and humid day. She ran a time of 39:16.22 seconds and did defeat a couple of Division I performers.
On Friday, the women's 4x200-meter relay team of #Samantha Johnson# (
Fr.-Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), #Stacey Peterson# (
Jr.-Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert), #Jennifer Plaetz# (
Fr.-Lucan, Minn./Wabasso), and #Katie Walrath# (
Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn.) broke the school record with a time of 1:46.94 seconds to finish eighth. Also, 4x400- relay team of Peterson, Plaetz, #Alex Aarestad# (
Jr.-Halstad, Minn./Oak Grove), and #Nicole Hughes# (
Fr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) broke the program record with a time of 4:07.21 seconds.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Peterson, Walrath, #Tasha Hanson# (
Fr.-East Grand Forks, Minn.), and Johnson ran a time of 51.78. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of #Todd Belger# (
Fr.-Bloomer, Wis.), #Wendell Booth# (
Fr.-Deer River, Minn./Grand Rapids), #Tyler Hassel# (
Jr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Grand Rapids), and #Garrett Cora# (
Fr.-Duluth, Minn./East) ran a time of 43.82 seconds.
Then on Saturday, the temperature had fallen into the 40s, coupled with rain showers. The drastic weather changes did not slow down the Saints as both the men's and women's sprint medley relay teams broke school records on the day.
For the men, Cora, Hassel, #Alex Tuttle# (
Jr.-Duluth, Minn./Central), and #Jake Turman# (
Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Central) ran a record time of 3:35.53 seconds. For the women, Johnson, Walrath, Peterson, Hughes ran a program-best time of 4:19.32 seconds.
Also down in Iowa, #Tara Connolly# (
Jr.-River Falls, Wis.) competed at the Kip Janvrin Simpson College Open on Friday night and ran a season-best time of 2:22.89 seconds in the 800-meter run.

So.-Saginaw, Minn./Proctor) set a school-best mark in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13-1.5” (4.00m). #Tom Lyscio# (
Fr.-Baxter, Minn.) was fourth in the shot put, throwing a distance of 45'-8.5” (13.93m) and #Pat Bigaouette# (
Fr.-Chaska, Minn.) was sixth in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:16.37 seconds.
The Saints will compete at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Track & Field Championships next Saturday in Morris, Minn. The action begins at 11 a.m.
