SAINTS CRUISE AGAIN

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team swept its sixth straight opponent by a 9-0 score, shutting down Northwestern College this evening in the Burns Wellness Commons.

The Saints improve to 15-7 overall and 8-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). CSS extends its conference winning streak to 69 straight matches. The Eagles fall to 5-8 overall and to 4-2 in the conference action.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of #Ploy Suthijindawong# (Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) and #Callee Conda# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) won by a score of 8-5. Conda and Ploy are ranked 14th in the Central Region. The No. 2 team of #Katie Motley# (Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Paula Beckermann# (Jr.-Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) won 8-3 and the No. 3 team of #Natalie Urick# (Jr.-Virginia, Minn.) and #Kelly Ross# (Jr.-Buffalo, Minn.) won 8-1.

In singles, Ploy, who is ranked seventh in the Central Region, won her 15th straight match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) prevailed at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-0. Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) was victorious at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0. #Angela Shields# (Jr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) at No. 4 singles took care of her opponent 6-3, 6-1 for her seventh win in a row. #Danni Sonnenfeld# (So.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) won at the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-0 for her sixth consecutive victory. The final win was by #Lynnae Wilke# (Sr.-Parkers Prairie, Minn.) at the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-0 for her eighth straight victory.

The Saints will face Luther College (Iowa) on Saturday in Northfield, Minn. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
