DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team went on the road and defeated Northwestern College 9-0 on Saturday and then defeated Division II's Michigan Tech 5-4 this morning at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

In Owatonna on Saturday, the Saints extended their conference winning streak to 63 consecutive matches with 9-0 win over Northwestern College. At No. 1 doubles #Ploy Suthijindawong# (Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) and #Callee Conda# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) won 8-2. The No. 2 doubles team of #Katie Motley# (Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Natalie Urick# (Jr.-Virginia, Minn.) won 8-1 and the No. 3 team of #Kelly Ross# (Jr.-Buffalo, Minn.) and #Megan Carlson# (Jr.-Pine City, Minn.) won 8-2.

In singles, Ploy won at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-0. Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2. The scores were flip-flopped at No. 3 with Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) winning 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 4 spot, Natalie Urick (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 6-1, 6-1. #Angela Shields# (Jr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) shut down her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 flight. #Lynnae Wilke# (Sr.-Parkers Prairie, Minn.) earned the final victory at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-1.

This morning at the Arrowhead Tennis Center the Saints faced Michigan Tech University, who is ranked seventh in Division II in the Midwest Region. The top two flights in doubles action were close with both being decided by a tiebreaker. The Huskies took both matches winning the No. 1 flight 9-8 (7-4) and the No. 2 spot 9-8 (8-6). CSS was victorious at No. 3 doubles with the team of Kelly Ross (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and Natalie Urick (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) winning 8-1.

The singles action was also very tight. Ploy Suthijindawong (Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central HS) rallied to win at the No. 1 spot 4-6, 6-3, (10-2). Ploy has won nine straight matches. The Huskies won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches so the Saints had to win the last three singles contests. Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) won her seventh straight match and improved to 11-1 this season with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. Angela Shields (Pengilly, Minn./Greenway HS) also did not have trouble at No. 5 singles winning 6-1, 6-1. It all came down to Natalie Urick (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) at No. 6 singles and she would pull out a thriller 4-6, 6-1, (10-6).

The Saints improve to 9-4 overall this season and defeat Michigan Tech for the first time in 10 tries.
