DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team was in split squad action today with half of its team traveling down to Des Moines, Iowa to face 18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus and the other half staying home to face Bethany Lutheran College in the conference opener at the Burns Wellness Commons.
This morning at the Burns Wellness Commons, the Saints defeated Bethany Lutheran 9-0. In doubles, it was the No. 1 team of #Megan Carlson# (

Fr.-Thunder, Bay, Ont.) won 8-0 for their first career doubles victory.

Katie Marcella (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won her first collegiate match 6-0, 6-0. The win extends CSS's conference winning streak to 62 straight matches.
Against nationally-ranked Gustavus Adolphus on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, the Saints fell by a score of 7-2 this afternoon. The lone victories for CSS came in singles action as #Ploy Suthijindawong# (
Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) extended her winning streak to seven with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Sierra Krebsbach. Ploy is ranked 10th in the Central Region and Krebsbach is 27th. #Callee Conda# (
So.-Hibbing, Minn.) earned the team's second win with a 6-2, 4-6, (10-7) victory at the No. 4 spot. Conda has now won five straight matches. Those two almost combined to win at No. 1 doubles, but fell in a tiebreak to the sixth-ranked duo in the region 9-8 (7-2).
The Saints, who are now 7-4, will be at Northwestern College next Saturday. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
