ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team had its three-match winning streak come to an end today as it fell to 27th-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) 7-2 in its final match in Florida.
The Saints fall to 6-3 with the loss, while the Thunder improve to 12-1.
Wheaton took all three doubles matches, but the Saints did take two of the top three singles matches. At No. 1 singles it was #Ploy Suthijindawong# (
Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) winning in the third set when her opponent had to retire. In that match, she lost the first set then came back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 8-6, and the score was 1-1 in third when her opponent retired. #Callee Conda# (
So.-Hibbing, Minn.) won the other match for the Saints at No. 3 singles as she won in a third-set super tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, (10-7). Suthijindawong is now 6-1 and Conda is 8-1 this season.
The Saints will begin conference action next Saturday when they host Bethany Lutheran College in the Burns Wellness Commons at 9 a.m. Some of the squad will also face Gustavus Adolphus in Iowa at noon on Saturday.
