WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS TOMMIES FOR THE FIRST TIME

ST. PAUL – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team won its third straight match with a 7-2 victory at the University of St. Thomas on Saturday.

The Saints are now 3-1 overall this season, while the Tommies drop their first match of the season and have a record of 2-1. The victory by CSS was the first against St. Thomas in five previous meetings.

The Saints began the match by winning two of three doubles matches. The No. 2 team of #Ploy Suthijindawong# (Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) and #Callee Conda# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) defeated their opponent 8-4. The No. 3 team of #Natalie Urick# (Jr.-Virginia, Minn.) and #Kelly Ross# (Jr.-Buffalo, Minn.) just got by their opponents by a score of 9-7.

In singles action, CSS took the top five flights. At No. 1 singles it was Ploy Suthijinadawong cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. #Paula Beckermann# (Jr.-Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer), at No. 2 singles, won by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)), at No. 3 singles, won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

At No. 4 singles, #Katie Motley# (Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) was victorious by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-0. Finally, #Angela Shields# (Jr.-Pengilly, Minn.) took care of her opponent easily by a score of 6-0, 6-1.

The Saints will be idle until their Spring Trip, which starts on Sunday, March 9th. They will open up with Coe College (Iowa) at 9 a.m. in Orlando, Fla.
