LITTLE FALLS, Minn. – #Tyler Kjorstad# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) led the Saints men's ski team today with an 18th place finish in the men's 10km classic at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships  at Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minn.

Finishing in a time of 27:28, Kjorstad finished 2:26 off the pace of Michigan Tech's Oskar Lund who out paced Northern Michigan's Martin Banerud. Sophomore #Waylon Manske# (So.-Bemidji, Minn.) finished 20 seconds behind Kjorstad in 20th, and junior #Jason Kask# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) rounded out the Saints scoring in 24th to finish fourth as a team. Northern Michigan edged Michigan Tech by one point.

“We were hoping for a big day on the NCAA qualification front, but Tyler just wasn't quite on today,” said Saints Head Coach Chad Salmela. “He faced a little bit of adversity today with broken basket and us coaches waxing his kick zone a bit short. It's so tight at the top that if everything doesn't go right, you slide right down the results.”

Despite Kjorstad's leading effort lacking in exuberance, Salmela was proud of his team's performance. “It's good that we expect better as a program. I like when the team steps up even when we didn't see our top performances at the front of the group. I think anytime we finish better than fifth as a team and as the top Division III program, we have to see it as a solid day for the team.”

The Saints compete tomorrow in the 20km mass start freestyle at Camp Ripley.
