ST. PAUL – St. Scholastica senior running back #Christopher Henagin# (
Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.) was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) North Division Co-Offensive Player of the Year; it was announced recently by UMAC Sports Information Director Greg Johnson.
Henagin was joined on the first team by sophomore offensive tackle #Stephen Voelkner# (
So.-Duluth, Minn./Central) and sophomore safety #Scott Greening# (
So.-Antigo, Wis.).
Henagin shared Offensive Player of the Year honors with quarterback Zach Tarter from Northwestern College. Henagin led the conference in rushing this season with 1,223 yards. His 122.3 yards per game ranked him 14th in NCAA Division III. Henagin also returned kicks and was a receiving threat out of the back field as he was fifth in the nation with 186.2 all-purpose yards per game. Henagin was a second team all-conference selection last season.
Stephen Voelkner (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) earns first team All-UMAC honors after being a second team selection last season. Voelkner started all 10 games this season and was the anchor to the Saints' offensive line.
Scott Greening (Antigo, Wis./Antigo HS (Mesabi CC)) is named to the first team in his first season in a CSS uniform. Greening was second on the team and 10th in the conference with 79 tackles. He also had two interceptions and six pass break-ups.
There were a total of seven Saints that received second team accolades. On the offensive side of the ball sophomore offensive lineman #Kyle Groves# (
So.-Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), along with sophomore wide receivers #Jonny Bennett# (
So.-Blackduck, Minn.) and #Mike VanMassenhove# (
So.-Superior, Wis.) were named to the second team.
Groves is named all-conference for the first time in his career. He started nine games this season. After being an honorable mention selection in 2008,
Jonny Bennett (Blackduck, Minn./Blackduck HS) is a second team this year as he led the Saints with 31 receptions. A first team selection in 2008,
Mike VanMassenhove (Superior, Wis./Superior HS (Minn.-Duluth)) was slowed by injury at the beginning of the season, but he still managed to catch 29 passes and led receivers with four touchdowns.
Defensively, linemen #Doug Moore# (
So.-Ladysmith, Wis.) and #Zack Dubanoski# (
Fr.-New Prague, Minn.), along with linebacker #Chris Doran# (
Fr.-Andover, Minn.) and defensive back #Sean Graskey# (
Fr.-Superior, Wis.) earned second team honors.
Moore is named to the second team for the second straight year. He missed the first four games of the season with an injury, but finished with 27 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss. Three freshmen, Dubanoski, Doran, and Graskey helped improve a defense from its inaugural season. Dubanoski was third on the team with 64 tackles, including seven for a loss. He led the UMAC with six forced fumbles. Doran finished with 45 tackles, including a team-high 9.5 for a loss. He also blocked four kicks on the year. Graskey led the team with 100 tackles, including six for a loss. His 10 tackles per game ranked him 48th in the nation.
Chuqee Fletcher of Martin Luther College was named the North Division Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year. Cody Crum of Northwestern College was named the Special Teams Player of the Year, while Doug Lange of Martin Luther was named the Coach of the Year.
