DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated this afternoon by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 85-61 at Reif Gym in the Burns Wellness Commons.
This is the eighth straight setback for the Saints as their record now stands at 1-9. The Falcons improve to 5-6 on the year.
The Saints trailed 17-8 with 13:28 to go in the first half, but three straight 3-pointers by #Chris Hamers# (
Jr.-Onamia, Minn.) quickly tied the contest at 17-17. With Falcons holding a 20-19 lead, they would go on a 12-0 run to go up by 13 with seven minutes left in the half. River Falls went into the locker room with a 42-29 advantage.
CSS shot 42-percent in the first half, while the Falcons were 55-percent from the field. River Falls out-rebounded the Saints 19-10 and had the advantage in the paint 22-6.
The Saints kept it within striking distance in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Falcons went on a 7-0 run with 10 minutes left in the game to lengthen the margin to 26 points. The River Falls lead got as high as 28 as the Falcons won by a score of 85-61. This is the first time since the 2005-06 season that the Saints have allowed 80 or more points in four straight games.
CSS shot 40-percent from the floor for the game. The Falcons shot 72-percent in the second half to finish at 63-percent for the game. The Saints made a season-high 10, 3-pointers in the loss. The Falcons owned the glass with a 35-20 rebounding advantage. River Falls also dominated the paint, out-scoring the Saints 48-14.

Jr.-Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson) had 11 points. Wade Guerin had 14 points to lead the Falcons.
The Saints will play next on Tuesday, December 29th when they participate in the Presentation Classic in Aberdeen, S.D. The Saints will take on Nebraska Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
