DULUTH, Minn. – In the 38 seasons of the St. Scholastica hockey program,
Mark Wick has guided his team to more wins than any other coach before him as the seventh-ranked Saints completed a sweep of No. 12 University of Wisconsin-Superior tonight, winning 3-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Wick's 73rd win at CSS passes Del Genereau, who had the most wins at 72 in his four seasons guiding the Saints from its inception in 1972 through 1976. Wick is in his sixth season at St. Scholastica, but has nearly more wins than the previous three coaches before him, dating back to 1991.
Just like the night before the Saints got off to a good start as #Jordan Chong# (
Sr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) scored his fifth of the season halfway through the period. Chong has scored a goal in each of the last five games. #Colin Trachsel# (

Fr.-Cambridge, Minn.) snuck the puck in past the 'keeper for his second of the season. #Dustin DeGagne# (
Sr.-Winnipeg, Man.) and #Jordan Baird# (
Sr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) had the assists.
The Yellowjackets owned a 10-9 shot advantage in the first period and out-shot the Saints for the game, but CSS goaltender #Brennan Poderzay# (
So.-Tower, Minn.) was steady in net.
The final goal of the night was scored 54 seconds into the second period when #Daman Milsom# (
So.-Kelowna, B.C.) drilled a slap shot from the blue line into the net to make it 3-0 CSS.
Jordan Baird (Port McNeill, British Columbia/Victoria (BCHL)) and #Jeff Gagnon# (
Sr.-Quesnel, B.C.) had the assists.
It was the Saints defense and
Brennan Poderzay (Tower, Minn./Tower-Soudan HS (Pickering-OPJHL) ) that took the game over from there as CSS killed off two power-plays and went on to win 3-0. The last time the Saints swept the Yellowjackets in back-to-back games was the 1978-79 season.
The Yellowjackets out-shot the Saints 29-18 in the contest.
Brennan Poderzay (Tower, Minn./Tower-Soudan HS (Pickering-OPJHL) ) had 29 saves to earn his first collegiate shutout. Bryan Dalbec had 15 saves in the loss for Superior. There were six penalties called in the contest.
