WOMEN’S SOCCER DISPOSES OF MORRIS TO ADVANCE TO TITLE MATCH

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team shut down the University of Minnesota-Morris this afternoon 3-0 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Semifinal match at Saints Field.

The Saints move on to the UMAC Tournament Championship match where it will host Northland College on Saturday at Saints Field. Northland defeated Northwestern College 2-1 in the other semifinal today.

CSS scored 7:30 seconds into today's match when #Angie Groh# (Sr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) scored with an assist from #Jen Krokum# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) and #Beth Flesvig# (Sr.-Proctor, Minn.). The goal was Groh's 100th career point and it moved her up to fifth on the Saints' all-time scoring list. That was the lone score of the first half.

In the second half, the Saints had a couple of shots blocked in the box before #Melisa Entinger# (Sr.-Mound, Minn./Holy Trinity) netted her team-high 12th of the season in the 67th minute to make the score 2-0. The Saints put the match away with nine minutes left on a #Kaylee Gombold# (Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.) goal to make the final score 3-0. Groh and #Katie Gaydos# (Sr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had the assists.

#Erin Olejnicak# (So.-Brainerd, Minn.) earned her sixth shutout of the season as she stopped three shots on the day. The Saints as a team have now shutout 13 teams this season. Emily Jacob had eight saves in the loss for the Cougars. St. Scholastica had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks on the day.

The Saints and LumberJills will square off for the UMAC Tournament Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field. The Saints will be looking for their third consecutive tournament championship, while the 'Jills are in search of their first.
