COBBERS PULL AWAY FROM THE SAINTS

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Concordia-Moorhead out-scored the St. Scholastica women's basketball team 54-28 in the second half on its way to defeating the Saints 90-51 this evening at the Pointer Tip-off, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The Saints fall to 1-1 this season, while this was the Cobbers' first game of the season. Concordia-Moorhead was an NCAA Tournament team last season.

CSS scored the first five points this evening and held the Cobbers without a field goal through the four minutes. However, Concordia went on a 20-2 run to take a 20-7 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half.

The Saints got back within seven points following a #Kirsten Haukom# (Sr.-Marshall, Minn.) lay-up with nine minutes left in the half. The Cobbers would respond with a 9-0 run to extend the lead back to 16 and went into halftime with a 36-23 lead.

CSS shot 33-percent in the first half, while the Cobbers weren't that much better at 37-percent.

In the second half, the Saints trailed by 12 with 15 minutes to go, but then the Cobbers out-scored CSS 34-12 over the next 10 minutes and had a 10-0 run in the final five minutes to win going away 90-51.

The Saints shot the exact same percentage in the second half, 33-percent, but the Cobbers shot 68-percent. CSS committed 24 turnovers, which led to 31 Concordia points. The Cobbers out-scored the Saints in the paint 44-22.

Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) led the Saints with 14 points. #Laura Amys# (So.-South Range, Wis./Superior) and #Katie Christensen# (Sr.-Elk River, Minn.) each added nine points. Haukom and Amys led the Saints with four rebounds apiece. Maggie Bauernfeind led the Cobbers with 21 points.

The Saints will take on Rockford College (Ill.) at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the consolation game of the Pointer Tip-off.
