JAMES’ GOAL PUTS MEN’S SOCCER BACK TO WINNING WAYS

MANKATO, Minn. – After not coming away with a win last weekend, the St. Scholastica men's soccer team needed to get back in the “W” column and #Dustin James#' (Jr.-Superior, Wis.) goal in the 81st minute gave the Saints a 2-1 victory today at Bethany Lutheran College. 

The Saints improve to 9-1-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Bethany Lutheran falls to 4-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference. 

The Saints controlled the match, out-shooting the Vikings 24-4. #Jermaine Dacres# (Jr.-Nottingham, England/Haywood Comprehensive) scored the first goal of the day and his first of the season in the 19th minute. #Toby Peter# (Jr.-Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach) had the assist. The Saints would lead 1-0 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half, CSS had a penalty kick 20 minutes into the half. After missing two penalty kicks in their last game, the Saints would miss another today. Bethany Lutheran capitalized less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal from Evans Tackie-Yarboi to tie it 1-1. 

With less than 10 minutes to go, the Saints had a free kick and #Greg Doornink# (Jr.-Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) played a ball to Dustin James (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and James beat the keeper to give the Saints a 2-1 lead with 9:15 left in the match. The Vikings did not threaten the rest of the way as the Saints prevailed by that 2-1 score. 

#Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) had the win for the Saints to earn his ninth victory. William Tatge had the loss in net for Bethany Lutheran. 

The Saints will play at Martin Luther tomorrow afternoon. The match is scheduled to begin at approximately 2 p.m., following the women's match.
