SAINTS AND YELLOWJACKETS PLAY TO A TIE

DULUTH, Minn. – Neither the St. Scholastica men's soccer team nor the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets could muster any goals today as the teams played to a scoreless tie at Saints Field.

The Saints are now 14-2-3 overall, while the Yellowjackets are 6-9-3 overall. The Saints are 8-2-2 all-time against the Yellowjackets.

CSS controlled the match out-shooting Superior 21-4, including 14-1 after halftime. After a scoreless first half, the Saints had the best scoring chance of the match. Eight minutes into the second half, CSS was awarded a penalty kick. However, Yellowjacket goalkeeper Tom Fitzer blocked the attempt and it remained scoreless. The Saints had other good looks at the net in regulation, but could not capitalize as the match went to overtime.

In the first overtime, the Saints had three shots on goal, but Fitzer stopped them all. Neither team would have a shot on goal in the second overtime as the contest ended in a 0-0 tie.

#Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) made two saves for the Saints and Tom Fitzer had 14 saves for the Yellowjackets. #Josh Odukomaya# (Fr.-White City, Sask./Luther College HS) led the Saints with five shots on goal. There were a total of 37 fouls in the match.
