DULUTH, Minn. – After a scoreless 60 minutes, the St. Scholastica men's soccer team broke through twice to defeat Northwestern College 2-0 this afternoon at Saints Field.
The Saints are now 12-1-2 overall and 9-1-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Eagles fall to 4-10-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the conference. CSS improves to 19-3 all-time at home when it hosts the Eagles.
The best scoring chance in the first half was when #Jermaine Dacres# (
Jr.-Nottingham, England/Haywood Comprehensive) hit the crossbar on a header seven minutes into the match. The Saints out-shot the Eagles 7-4 in the first half, but it was scoreless after the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, #Dustin James# (
Jr.-Superior, Wis.) sent in the ball into the box and after the ball was misplayed by the goalkeeper, #Cody Sveiven# (
Jr.-Coon Rapids, Minn.) kicked the ball over to #Toby Peter# (
Jr.-Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach), who kicked it in the net to give CSS a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. The Saints kept the pressure on and in the 81st minute Sveiven got the ball from Peter and made the score 2-0.
Jermaine Dacres (Nottingham, England/Haywood School) also had the assist.

So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) made four saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season. Josh Niedermayer had three saves in the loss for the Eagles.
