Reed earns sixth shutout of the season

NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team won for the second consecutive day with a 2-0 triumph this afternoon at Martin Luther College. 

The Saints improve to 10-1-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Knights fall to 2-8-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the UMAC. The Saints are 19-9 all-time against the Knights and have won six straight. 

CSS scored first in the 24th minute with a #Brandon Stemwedel# (So.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) goal. That was Stemwedel's fourth tally of the season. The Saints put four more shots on net in the half, but those were turned away. 

St. Scholastica sealed the match in the 87th minute when #Jim Atol# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored his second goal on the year to make the final 2-0. 

The Saints out-shot Martin Luther 15-4. #Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) made two saves for CSS to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Alex Vandenberg had five saves in the loss for Martin Luther. 

The Saints return home next weekend when they host Crown College on Friday and Northwestern College on Saturday. The Crown match will begin at approximately 3 p.m., following the women's match. The match can be seen live courtesy of the iFan Sports Network at csssaints.com.
