Colby Carlson begins his 14th year assisting the men’s and women’s tennis program in 2021. Carlson a native of Los Gatos, California, graduated from Carleton College in 1997 with a B.A. in Political Science. He moved on after graduation to Western Illinois University where he earned his M.A. in Sports Management in 1999. While at WIU Carlson played 6-singles and 3-doubles for the Leathernecks.

After earning his Master’s degree he worked in the Athletic Department at Carleton from 1999-2000 and served as the men’s tennis coach before joining the tennis professional staff at White Bear Racquet and Swim in 2000 where he worked until 2005, also serving during that span as the assistant head tennis pro at White Bear Yacht Club during the summer months.

Carlson, a certified USPTA tennis professional, returned to Carleton as the interim head coach for the 2004-05 season then took over as the women’s interim coach for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, also serving as a Visiting Professor of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation.

Colby, his wife Amy, son Luke and daughter Emersyn moved to Duluth in 2007 where he took over as the Girl’s head tennis coach at The Marshall School.
