Barry Chastey enters his 21th season as the head coach of the Saints in 2025. He was first hired at St. Scholastica in the summer of 2003 as the head men’s and women’s junior varsity coach and assistant to both varsity programs before moving into the head coaching position for the 2005 season.

Under the direction of Chastey, the Saints claimed 11 Conference Regular Season and eight Tournament Championships. In 2010, Chastey led the Saints to a sweep of the conference regular season and tournament championship en route to the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth. In 2012, he guided the Saints to their second NCAA Tournament appearance where they fell to eventual national semifinalist Loras College (Iowa) in the first round. From 2012-15, Chastey guided the Saints to the highest scoring offense in the nation. In 2014, he led the Saints to the first 20-win season in program history. His squads currently hold the NCAA record for consecutive conference games without a loss. Chastey was named the UMAC Coach of the Year in 2007.

In 17 seasons with the Saints, Chastey has coached 11 Conference Players of the Year, 70 First Team All-Conference honorees, 115 Academic All-Conference student-athletes, five NAIA Scholar-Athletes and one CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. In 2015, he coached the program’s first, First Team NSCAA NCAA All-American in Kyle Farrar.

Chastey hails from England where he built his coaching philosophy in working with both youth and adult teams for six years. In addition to his coaching experience, Chastey expanded his knowledge of soccer through playing the game for twenty years, including six years of semi-professional soccer.

Upon first moving to the United States, Chastey spent three years working as an assistant in the highly successful Duluth East High School girls’ soccer program. Currently, Chastey is also the coaching director of the Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club, where he works to develop both the coaches and the players within the competitive summer soccer club.

Chastey lives in Duluth with his wife Kelly, a teacher in the Duluth school district, and their two sons Keegan and Parker.
