APPLETON, Wis. – The College of St. Scholastica volleyball team fell to Lawrence University in four sets Wednesday evening at Alexander Gym, dropping to 2-2 on the season. The Vikings took the match 25-14, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-17.
After Lawrence controlled the opening set, the Saints responded with their best offensive performance of the night in the second. St. Scholastica recorded 18 kills while hitting .265 in the frame, evening the match with a 25-21 victory.
The third set was tightly contested, featuring seven ties and three lead changes. The Vikings eventually pulled ahead late to take a 25-22 win and regain the match lead.
Lawrence carried that momentum into the fourth, recording 17 kills and hitting .259 on its way to a 25-17 victory to close out the match.
Abby Zins (Chisago Lakes, MN/Chisago Lakes High School) led the Saints offensively with 15 kills, while Ava Decker (Rochester, MN/Century HS) added nine kills and three solo blocks. Lilli Rechichi (Ely, MN/Ely Memorial HS) finished with eight kills, while Bailey Husbands (Baudette, MN/Lake of the Woods HS) dished out a team-high 29 assists and added nine digs.
Defensively, Cassidy Lustig (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) led St. Scholastica with 14 digs and Bryn Ziegler (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson HS) added 13. The Saints finished with 43 kills and a .141 hitting percentage, while Lawrence totaled 49 kills and hit .205.
St. Scholastica returns to action Friday, Sept. 11, when it travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, for the P-Wolf Invite. The Saints will open the tournament against host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 7 p.m.
