Men's Soccer Falls at Dubuque, 4-1
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The College of St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell 4-1 to the University of Dubuque on Thursday evening at Oyen Field, dropping the Saints to 0-3 on the season.
Dubuque opened the scoring just over two minutes into the match, as Luka Tomic found the net to give the Spartans an early 1-0 advantage.
St. Scholastica responded in the 13th minute. Tim Bader (München, Germany/) scored off an assist from Vasco Carneiro (Lisbon, Portugal/), pulling the Saints even at 1-1.
The tie lasted five minutes before Jameson Carl put Dubuque back in front at 17:59. Carl struck again in the 28th minute to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.
Despite the deficit, St. Scholastica generated plenty of chances throughout the opening half. The Saints recorded 12 shots to Dubuque's eight and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks over the first 45 minutes.
Dubuque added its fourth goal in the 55th minute when Andre Elinoff scored to extend the lead to 4-1. The Saints continued to push forward but were unable to cut into the deficit.
CSS finished with an 18-13 advantage in total shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS) led the Saints with five shots, including two on goal, while Bader finished with four shots and two on target. Afonso Silva (Lisbon, Portugal/) made five saves in goal for St. Scholastica.
St. Scholastica will remain in Dubuque for its next contest, taking on Loras College at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
