Baseball Tallies Fifth Straight Win With 17-Hit Barrage Against Suffolk
DAVENPORT, Fla. — The College of St. Scholastica baseball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 12–3 victory over Suffolk University on Thursday at Northeast Regional Park. The Saints improved to 7–3 on the season, using a 17-hit offensive performance and strong work from the bullpen to secure the win.
Logan Price (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon HS) started on the mound for St. Scholastica, working the first 1 1/3 innings before the Saints turned to their bullpen. Michael Zunker (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) provided the bulk of the relief effort and earned the win, pitching five innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four. Nico Gallegos (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Nick Thums (Madison, WI/Madison West) combined to finish the game with 2 2/3 hitless innings of relief.
Offensively, several Saints contributed to the 17-hit effort. Finley Spicer (Aberdeen, N.C./Union Pines HS (Limestone University)) led the way with four hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Kellan Graning (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) also collected four hits, highlighted by a solo home run, and added three RBIs. Luke Krull (Greenville, WI/Xavier HS) finished with two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, while Owen Maslowski (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater Area HS) recorded three hits with a double and an RBI while scoring three times.
Suffolk jumped out to an early three-run lead in the first inning, but the Saints responded quickly. Graning cut into the deficit with a solo home run in the second, and St. Scholastica continued to chip away before taking control in the middle innings.
The Saints broke the game open in the fifth inning with three runs. Maslowski delivered an RBI double to score Spicer, and Graning followed with an RBI single to bring home Ben Schefers (Cologne, MN/Central HS). Maslowski later scored on a throwing error to extend the lead.
St. Scholastica added further insurance in the seventh inning with a five-run frame. Krull highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double to left center, while Spicer added an RBI double to help put the game out of reach.
After allowing three runs in the opening inning, Saints pitching held Suffolk to just three hits the rest of the way.
St. Scholastica will return to action Friday to face North Park and Benedictine as they continue their spring break schedule.
