NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Chloe Patrick (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School) recorded 15 saves as the St. Scholastica women's soccer team held St. Olaf to a one-goal margin into the second half before falling 4-0 Saturday at Rolf Mellby Field.
The Oles scored in the fourth minute when Emily Johnson finished a rebound off a shot by Lillian Rediger. Patrick and the Saints kept St. Olaf off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half, entering the break trailing 1-0.
Celia Prenier (Esko, MN/Esko HS) registered St. Scholastica's first scoring opportunity in the 27th minute, putting a shot on target that St. Olaf goalkeeper Charlotte Percy saved. Patrick made three first-half saves as the Oles held a 19-1 advantage in shots.
Patrick continued to turn away chances after halftime, making seven saves in the opening 16 minutes of the second half to keep the Saints within one. Johnson broke through for her second goal at 64:21, scoring from the top of the box to extend the lead to 2-0.
Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) put a shot on goal in the 75th minute, but St. Olaf goalkeeper Clara Luger made the stop. The Oles added goals from Aida Engle at 76:22 and Lillian Miller at 86:46 to complete the scoring.
Patrick finished with 15 saves in 84:15 of action, while Addie Aleshire (Fridley, MN/Fridley HS) added three saves over the final 5:45. The Saints also received a team save, bringing their total to 19. Prenier and Lewis each recorded a shot on goal.
St. Olaf finished with a 53-2 advantage in shots and an 18-1 edge in corner kicks, improving to 9-1-3 overall and 5-1 in MIAC play. St. Scholastica moved to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
The Saints return home to host Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Kenny Harkins Field.
