Men's Basketball Falls Short in Second Half Against Hamline

DULUTH, Minn. — The St. Scholastica Saints fought with intensity and grit on Wednesday night in Reif Gymnasium, but ultimately came up short against a strong Hamline University squad, falling 95–72 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.

From tip-off, the Saints competed head-to-head with the Pipers, keeping the first half tightly contested. St. Scholastica trailed by just seven at intermission, 34–41, buoyed by active defense and timely buckets on the offensive end.

Senior guard Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/) led the Saints with a standout performance, pouring in 18 points on efficient shooting and sparking the offense when St. Scholastica needed it most. Freshman Jayden Brown (Grantsburg, WI/Grantsburg HS) provided a strong all-around effort, contributing 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, while veteran Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore HS) added 11 points with multiple key possessions.

Despite those bright spots, Hamline's balanced attack and depth allowed the Pipers to extend their lead in the second half, pulling away with a high-tempo offense that finished 95 points on solid shooting.

The seventh consecutive loss drops the Saints to 4-9 overall, and 0-4 in MIAC play. Up next, the Saints travel to St. Olaf College on Saturday, January 10. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00p.m.
