The track and field team jumpstarted their stretch of winter meets with a trip over the bridge this weekend. Competitors from Bemidji State, Lakehead University, St. Mary's University, University of Minnesota - Duluth, and University of Wisconsin - Superior joined in the action on Saturday.
Wasting no time in the first event of the day, Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) yet again improved on her personal best performance from December's home weight throw competition. Her winning toss of 16.50m surpassed her previous best by a half meter. Although Stritesky continues to improve, she still sits fourth on the Saints all-time list. Stritesky currently sits atop the MIAC performance list.
Regan Niemi (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) led the way for the Saints on the track with a third place finish in the 3000m run. Her time of 10:41.46 is the seventh fastest time in the event in school history.
In the long jump, first year jumper Allison Fink (Mountain Iron, MN/Rock Ridge High School) leapt to a personal best of 4.90m to place third on the podium. Shayna Wick (Poplar, WI/Northwestern High School) finished right behind Fink with a leap of 4.86m.
Jillian Bilben (International Falls, MN/Falls High School) led the way for the Saints in the triple jump. Her best jump of 9.69m was good for runner-up honors.
The Saints continue their streak of competitions with a meet at St. John's University next weekend.
