DULUTH, Minn. - The College of St. Scholastica football team opened its 2025 season in dominant fashion and two Saints earned conference recognition for their efforts. Following the Saints' 41-27 road victory of Wisconsin Lutheran on September 6th, sophomore running back
Jevon Williams (Willmar, MN/Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (ACGC)) and senior cornerback
Ian Strusz (Albertville, MN/St. Michael-Albertville HS) were named MIAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Williams delivered one of the most impressive performances in program history, rushing 31 times for 227 yards and four touchdowns. His four rushing scores are the most by a MIAC player since 2022 and the most by a Saint since 2014. Williams wasn't just effective on the ground - he also hauled in two receptions for 57 yards and returned two kickoffs for 38 yards, finishing the night with 322 all-purpose yards. That mark ranks as the second-highest single-game total in NCAA Division III this season, while his 227 rushing yards stand third nationally.
On the other side of the ball, Strusz anchored the Saints' defense with a performance that etched his names in both program and conference history. The senior recorded three interceptions, becoming the only defensive player in any NCAA division this season to reach that mark in a single game. His three picks tied the Saints' single-game record and tied for the third-most ever by a MIAC player. Strusz added three tackles to cap off his standout effort.
The Saints return to action September 20th at home against Augsburg looking to build on their strong start. That game is scheduled for 1pm.
