DULUTH, Minn. - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team battled hard on Saturday afternoon but came up short against St. Olaf, dropping a 3-0 decision at Kenny Harkins Field.
The Oles struck early, finding the back of the net twice in the opening seven minutes. Despite the tough start, the Saints settled in defensively, keeping St. Olaf off the board for the remainder of the first half behind the strong play of goalkeeper
Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS), who tallied three saves in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Saints began to push forward offensively and recorded all four of their shots.
Mariah Hernesman (Duluth, MN/Duluth Marshall HS) and
Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) each tested the St. Olaf keeper with shots on target, while
Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, MN./Princeton HS) and Tenly Voth added attempts. Senich continued her strong outing in the net, making six more saves to finish with nine on the day.
St. Olaf added a late insurance goal in the final minute to close out the scoring.
With the result, the Saints move to 2-6-2 overall and 0-2-1 in MIAC play.
The Saints will look to bounce back on Wednesday as they travel to face Bethel in Arden Hills, Minnesota. That game will start at 4pm.
