Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's soccer team opened the 2025 season at home against a non-conference opponent, the Duhawks of Loras College. Today's season opener concluded in a draw with a final score of 0-0.
How it Happened
First Half
The first forty-five opened with the Duhawks rattling off several shots both on and off goal in the first fifteen minutes of the half. Freshman goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) was able to stop four shots on target, opening her career strongly.
The first half ended with a yellow card handed out to the Saints, and the Duhawks attempting some shots, with a majority falling off target. The score remained 0-0 after forty-five minutes.
Second Half
Loras opened the half with an offensive push for the lead, attempting another six shots on the Saints' defense. To the disappointment of the Duhawks, the Saints' defense was able to completely shut down their try, with Senich stopping four of those shots, the defensive unit stepping in to block the fifth, and the sixth falling out of bounds.
The Saints' Jordyn Randa (Cloquet, MN/Esko HS) found space in the Duhawks' defensive zone and released the Saints' first shot of the game. Randa's shot fell off target, but the Saints used this moment to shift the momentum of the game in their favor, using this to push the ball out of their own zone.
Following a series of substitutions from both teams, both the Saints and Duhawks were able to attack the net of their opponent. The Duhawks attempted two shots, both sailing wide of the net, and Saint Hannah Holm (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS) was able to fire, but her shot also went past the net.
With twenty minutes remaining in the game, the Saints suffered their second yellow card.
The Saints' home opener ended with goalkeeper Senich recording two more saves and securing the 0-0 tie.
