The College of St. Scholastica has announced the hiring of Breanna Nelson as the new assistant coach for its women's soccer program. Nelson, a decorated NCAA Division III student-athlete and rising coaching talent, brings a strong background in player development, goalkeeper training, and program leadership to the Saints.

Nelson comes to Duluth from Concordia College-Moorhead, where she served as Assistant Women's Soccer Coach while also leading the school's inaugural women's flag football program as head coach. In her soccer role, she managed recruitment visits, designed and implemented training sessions, oversaw all aspects of goalkeeper coaching, developed scouting reports, and contributed to program budgeting and operations.

Her coaching experience also includes serving as Assistant Girls Soccer Coach and Head JV Coach at Fargo North High School, Assistant Girls Soccer Coach at Fargo Shanley High School, and Head Girls Soccer Coach for Tri-City Storm Soccer Club. She has also been a key staff member at Cobber Soccer Camps since 2021, working with youth players to build skills in a positive and structured environment.

As a player, Nelson was a three-year captain for Concordia's women's soccer program, helping lead the Cobbers from a winless season to a MIAC semifinal appearance. She earned MIAC Honorable Mention honors in 2023, ranked among the top three in the conference for saves, goals-against average, and saves per game, and was a four-time Academic All-Conference selection.

Nelson graduated from Concordia with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science and a minor in Psychology. She served as President of the Exercise Science Club, was a Dean's List honoree, and earned the Edson & Margaret Larson Foundation Scholarship for her academic achievements.

Saints head coach Dave Reyelts expressed excitement for the addition. "Breanna's passion for the game, her experience as both a high-level player and a developing coach, and her ability to connect with student-athletes will be a great asset to our program," said Reyelts. "We're thrilled to welcome her to the Saints family."

Nelson will begin working with the Saints immediately as preparations begin for the upcoming 2025 season that kicks off at home on Kenny Harkins Field against Loras College on August 29th at 11:00 a.m.
