The Cross Country and Track and Field Academic All-District® Teams from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) were recently announced, and the Saints were honored with five men's and five women's members.
Each school can nominate a select number of student-athletes that meet the following criteria:
• at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
• at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
• Be Ranked in the Top 50 in the NCAA North Region in an event.
On the women's side,
Ella Engen (Clearbrook, Minn./Clearbrook-Gonvick HS) was the first to qualify with her top 50 performances in the shot put and discuss, where she led the Saints in both distances this season with personal bests of 11.53m and 38.39m respectively.
Grace McCormick (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) qualified by virtue of being highly ranked in the 5,000m run with a season best time of 18:31.22. She also was the Saints top performer in the 1500 with a 4:52.73 and the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 12:50.77.
Elli Schritz (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) was the Saints best horizontal jumper throughout the season. She qualified for the CSC team by her performance in the triple jump with a season best mark of 10.31m. Next up was
Toria Strampe (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) in the high jump. Her air time was highly impressive, and she had a season high jump of 1.54m. Lastly,
Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) qualified for her performances in the hammer throw. Her season best distance came in at 52.45m, and she always stepped up her game in the biggest moments, finishing as MIAC All-Conference in the event and as a second-team All-American at the National Championships.
For the men's team,
Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS) qualified by his performances both during the cross country and indoor track season. Boone qualified for his third NCAA Championships in cross country, and finished as a second-team All-American in the mile during the Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Sean Alfaro Deadrich made the CSC team in part because of his performances in the 100m dash. His season best time of 10.88 was the best on the season for the Saints and was enough for him to be MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) qualified for the team in three different events: the shot put, discus, and hammer throws. His best event was the hammer throw, where his season best of 54.23m crowned him as MIAC Champion in the event.
Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) continued to use his lengthy strides to make the CSC team in the 400m dash. He reset the Saints school record in the event with a time of 48.40, and he was also the Saints best 200m runner, coming through at 21.90 in his fastest finish. Lastly,
Lars Dewall (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) wrapped up his collegiate career by making power moves in the 3,000m run. He pushed his own school record in the event even lower to a time of 8:15.68 and won the event at the MIAC Championships on the way to qualifying for the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
By virtue of being named second-team All-American, Boone and Stritesky have moved on to the CSC Academic All-American voting process. Stay tuned to see if either receive the distinguished honor.
