Women's Tennis Conclude Regular Season With Loss to Gustavus, 9-0

Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica women's tennis team hosted another MIAC Conference match, this time against the Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus College. Today's match ended with the Saints taking a crushing 9-0 loss.

How it Happened

Doubles

No Saints were victorious in doubles play, however, Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) and Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/Instituto de Educación a Distancia) came the closest, finishing with a score of 7-9. 

Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) were not far behind them. Competing at No. 2 doubles, they finished with a score of 5-9.

Finally, Paula Sendele (Icking, Germany/) and Sophia Cosgrove (Bli Bli, , Australia/) ended their match with a score of 1-9.

Singles
Claire Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS), at No. 6 singles, came the closest to victory. After two closely contested sets, Rewertz scored 2-6 and 6-7. 

Maier and Cosgrove both put up a total of four points in their matches. Maier, who competed at No. 1 singles, finished with scores of 1-6 and 3-6. Cosgrove at No. 4 singles scored 2-6 in both sets. 

M. Sosa and Bartels were not far behind in scoring—M. Sosa, who was featured in No. 5 singles, scored 1-6 in both sets, with Bartels scoring 6-2 and 6-1.

Benitez was handled by the Gusties rather quickly; her match ended after she was only able to score 1-6 and 0-6. 

Season Recap
The Saints finished their regular season with an overall record of 11-7 and a conference record of 5-5. They will be saying goodbye to five seniors after the 2025 season comes to an end. Those seniors are Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí), Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium), Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/Instituto de Educación a Distancia), Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS), and Annika Lundell (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS). However, St. Scholastica will now look ahead to the MIAC conference tournament where they will play Bethel University in the tournament quarterfinals. This matchup will start on Wednesday at 3:30 PM in Arden Hills.
