While it was not able to be released in a time sensitive manner, it is important to give the proper respect, and perhaps introduction, to alumnus Karl Wright who has been serving in the role of Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations for the last few months. A former NCAA Division III student-athlete and summa cum laude graduate, Wright has brought a strong background in fundraising, strategic communication, and alumni engagement to his role.

Wright returned to his alma mater with a clear mission: to give back to the program that helped shape his personal and professional journey.

"St. Scholastica gave me a community that believed in me, challenged me, and helped me grow," Wright said. "As a student-athlete, I learned the importance of resilience, discipline, and leadership. Now, I'm excited to help provide those same opportunities to today's Saints through meaningful alumni engagement and strategic fundraising."

In his role, Wright focuses on building and strengthening relationships with coaches, alumni, local businesses, and community partners to generate increased support for Saints Athletics. His work plays a key role in advancing the College's fundraising goals and expanding the reach and impact of its athletic programs.

Wright most recently completed his Master of Arts in International Affairs at Boston University's Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, where he specialized in security studies and was awarded the prestigious Ambassador Hermann Frederick Eilts Thesis Award for best thesis in the program. His academic and leadership journey builds upon his undergraduate success at St. Scholastica, where he double-majored in History and Philosophy, minored in Political Science, and was a standout defenseman on the men's hockey team.

Beyond the classroom, Wright has spent more than a decade as a professional power skating coach, traveling nationwide to help hockey players refine their skills and reach their potential. His ability to inspire and connect with athletes, parents, and coaches alike has been a hallmark of his coaching career.

"I believe in the power of sports to transform lives. That's what this job is really about—creating the kind of support system that allows student-athletes to thrive on the ice, on the field, on the court, and in the classroom," Wright said. "Coming back to St. Scholastica wasn't just a career move—it's a chance to pay it forward."

"When you combine a deep love for your alma mater with a strong professional skill set, you get someone like Karl Wright," said Athletic Director Jessica Cherry. "Karl brings not only talent and experience but also a heartfelt connection to our student-athletes, traditions and mission.  There is no one better to help carry our Athletics vision forward.  I have been very impressed with the impact Karl has made in reconnecting and engaging our broader community."

Wright's position is housed within the Office of College Advancement, with a dual reporting line to the Director of Athletics and Recreation and the Vice President for College Advancement. His return to campus represents a full-circle moment for someone who once led on the ice and now seeks to lead from behind the scenes—helping secure the resources that make athletic and academic excellence possible.
