Saints Shine Bright at 2025 Saints Sports Awards

DULUTH, MN – The College of St. Scholastica Athletics Department hosted its twelfth annual Saints Sports Awards on Monday, April 21, in the Mitchell Auditorium on the Duluth main campus. The event was established in 2013 to recognize all of St. Scholastica's student-athletes for their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in the community. 

Nominees for the awards were based on fall and winter sports during the 2024-25 school year and spring sports from 2024. The awards were then voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), coaches and athletics administration. 

Awards were announced for the following categories: 

  • Male/Female Rookie of the Year: Wyatt Wurst (Hockey), Ava Haus (Basketball)

  • Male/Female Athlete of the Year: Trent Beseth (Track and Field), Lily Beneke (Track and Field)

  • Male/Female Team of the Year: Track and Field, Cross Country

  • Male/Female Performance of the Year: Distance Medley Relay at NCAA National Championships, Lily Beneke at NCAA National Championships

  • Male/Female Game of the Year: Track and Field at MIAC Championships, Cross Country at MIAC Championships

  • Male/Female Career Achievement: Calvin Boone (Cross Country), Lily Beneke (Track and Field)

  • John Baggs Sportsmanship Award: John Bonner (Football), Sara Parent (Hockey)

  • Male/Female Scholar-Athlete: Jonas Abeleda (Tennis), Sara Parent (Hockey)

  • Distinguished Alumni Award: Chris Rubesch '08

  • Humanitarian Award: Jenna Horvat (Hockey)

  • Berntson Blue and Gold Award: Coach Dan Szymczak (Golf)
