Women's Tennis Secures Shut Out Win Against Scots in First Match of Florida Trip

Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's tennis team traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete against the Scots of Covenant College. Today's match ended with the Saints securing another win, finishing with a team score of 7-0 after a series of dominant matches.

How it Happened

Doubles

Paula Sendele (Icking, ,DE) and Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) opened the Saints' first day of competition in the doubles matches. Today, against the Scots, Sendele and Maier finished off their opponents by a score of 6-2.

Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Sophia Cosgrove (Bli Bli, , AU) were next up for the Saints. In their first match of their trip, this duo finished with a 6-0 shut out win against the Scots #2 doubles pair. 

Annika Lundell (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Claire Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) were the final duo for the Saints. They too finished their doubles match with a 6-0 shut out win against their opponents, making a clean sweep for St. Scholastica. 

Singles
Maier opened up  the singles portion of today's match, winning her match in two sets, scoring 6-1, and 6-1.

Bartels was slotted in the #2 singles spot for the Saints, and she achieved a win in her match, scoring 6-1, and 6-4 for the Saints. 

Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) was the third athlete for the Saints to compete in the singles section of today's match.  She dominated her matchup, recording scores of 6-0 in both of her sets, securing another shut out win for the Saints. 

Cosgrove was the fourth athlete for the Saints, she secured another win in her singles match, recording scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

Sendele appeared fifth for the Saints in the singles competition, she bested her opponent in her singles match, achieving scores of  4-6, 6-4, and 6-3. 

Renata Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/Instituto de Educación a Distancia) was the final athlete for the Saints today. In her singles match, she recorded two 6-0 shut outs in her two sets, earning the Saints another win in excellent fashion.   

Whats Next
The Saints (3-3, 1-1 MIAC) will continue their Spring break trip in Orland with four more opponents yet to come over the next week. Next up will be the Franciscian University of Steubenville Barons on Monday, March 10th.
