Women's Tennis Capture Fourth Win in Final Game of Florida Trip Against Central College

Orlando, Fl. – The Saint Scholastica women's tennis team ended their spring break trip to Florida with a win against the Dutch of Central College. Today's match saw the Saints claim their fourth win in Florida, ending today's match with a score of 5-2.

How it Happened

Doubles

Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Paula Sendele (Icking, ,DE) opened today's match by competing at No.1 doubles. They earned the Saint's first win with a 6-0 shut-out victory over the Dutch, claiming the first win needed for the doubles point. 

Annika Lundell (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Sophia Cosgrove (Bli Bli, , AU) competed at the No. 2 doubles match. There, they secured a 6-2 victory over Central College, earning the doubles point for the Saints. Hailey Hokanson (Sauk Centre, Minn./) and Claire Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) rounded out the Saints doubles in the No. 3 spot. They too captured a victory, scoring 6-4, giving the Saints a sweep in doubles. 

Singles
Maier competed at No. 1 singles and proved to be just as dominant as in doubles. Coming off an impressive shutout in the No. 1 doubles match, she won her singles match in two sets, only allowing her opponent to score one total point. Maier finished with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. 

Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) was in No. 2 singles today. In her match, she too showed dominance over the Dutch, claiming her victory in two sets, with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/), who appeared at the No. 4 singles, gave an equally impressive performance. She, too, bested her opponent, finishing 6-3 and 6-2

Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) was the final athlete for the Saints to achieve a win. At the No. 3 singles spot, she doubled her opponent's total score, finishing 6-3 in her two sets. 

Bella Vincent (Hibbing, MN) and Renata Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/Instituto de Educación a Distancia) took the No. 5 and 6 singles spots, respectively. Vincent fell, while managing to score 3-6, and 1-6. R. Sosa finished her sets with closer scores, forcing an extra game to be played in the first set, finishing that with a score of 5-7, and her second set with a score of 3-6. 

What's Next
The Saints (7-3, 1-1 MIAC) will return to Duluth, Min. to host the Royals (6-1, 2-0 MIAC) of Bethel University on Saturday, March 22. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
