Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica women's tennis team hosted today's tennis match against the Royals of Bethel University. The Saints succumbed to the Royals' pressure, finishing with a final score of 7-2.
How it Happened
Doubles
Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) and Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/), who competed at No. 3 doubles were the only pair for the Saints to claim victory. In their match against the Royals, they finished with a score of 8-6.
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Paula Sendele (Icking, ,DE/) along with Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Sophia Cosgrove (Bli Bli, , AU/), competing in the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches respectively, all failed to achieve a win. Both pairs finished their matches with scores of 4-8.
Singles
M. Sosa was the solitary Saint to beat her opponent in the singles matches. She got an early finish in her match, winning the first set 7-5 before her opponent retired after the opening set.
Bartels maintained a close gap with her opponent but still failed to achieve success. She ended with scores of 5-7 and 2-6.
Cosgrove and Benitez both finished their sets with the same scores. Both Saints ended in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
Sendele and Maier were unable to achieve much success in their matches. Maier finished, scoring 1-6 and 6-4. Sendele finished 0-6 and 1-6.
What's Next
The Saints (7-4, 1-2 MIAC) will travel to Minneapolis, Minn, to compete against the Wildcats (8-2, 3-1 MAIC) in a MIAC Conference match. This match is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m.
