Multi-Hit Games for Multiple Saints Not Enough as Beloit Comes Out on Top

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The St. Scholastica baseball team took on the Buccaneers from Beloit College this afternoon in its only contest on the day. The Saints jumped out to an early lead after three innings, but the Buccaneer pitching staff held the Saints offense in check, as Beloit added to its total to come away with a 8-3 victory over CSS.

How it Happened

Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Finley Spicer (Aberdeen, N.C./Union Pines HS (Limestone University)) both recorded base hits in the top of the first inning to get a pair of runners on. With two outs, Adam Braun (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS (Central Lakes CC)) drove in Oswald on an RBI single, giving the Saints an early 1-0 lead.

Jonathan Stoeckle (Fresno, CA/Clovis West HS) picked up a pair of strikeouts en route to a scoreless inning.

Beloit claimed its first lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two runs in the inning on one hit, including a CSS error, taking a 2-1 lead over the Saints.

Damian Tamayo Vera (Miami, FL./Felix Varela Senior HS) led off the top of the third inning with a single, and with two outs in the inning, Jack Tiemann (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) doubled to put two men in scoring position. Levi Stubbles (San Bruno, Calif./El Camino HS (Skyline College)) would drive in a pair of runs on a two-RBI single, with CSS reclaiming its lead at 3-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Beloit added three runs in the inning on a bases-clearing three-RBI double, reclaiming the lead over CSS at 5-2.

Zeke Walton (Olivia, Minn/BOLD HS (Ridgewater CC)) shut down the Beloit offense in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, keeping the score still at 5-2.

The Saints were held in check in the sixth and seventh innings, despite getting opportunities to drive in runners on base, as the Buccaneers continued to hold a three-run lead.

A three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth off the bat of the Beloit offense, expanding its lead to 8-3 heading into the final stretch of the game.

The bats of St. Scholastica fell silent in the final inning, as Beloit came away with an 8-3 victory over CSS.
