Men's Tennis Dominate Knights in Twin Cities, With a 5-2 Victory

Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Men's tennis team traveled to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete against the Wartburg Knights. In today's match, the Saints recorded the victory against the Knights, with an overall final score of 5-2.

How it Happend

Doubles

The first finals match featured the duo of Jonas Adeleda and Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Au./St Joseph's Nudgee College) going head-to-head against Jeff Miller and Cade Davis of Wartburg. Match one ended with a decisive final set score of 6-3 with Adeleda and Gerrard-Stace taking the win over the Wartburg double. 

Match two featured Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) alongside Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn./) facing off against Kyle Sehlin and Robert Matera. Match two lasted longer than any other Men's doubles match today, and ended 7-5 with the Saints once again taking a victory. 

Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Alex Daignault rounded it out for the Saints doubles today. They were pitted against Milan Lecic and Kellen Jones of the Knights. In another quick win for the Saints, Patten and Daignault beat Lecic and Jones, rounding out the doubles outing for the Saints with a match score of 6-4. 

Singles
The Saints played a total of six singles matches in today's contest. The first singles contest featured Abeleda. Abeleda bested his opponent in two sets, recording scores of 6-2, and 6-3, winning his match in two. 

D. Patten was next on deck for the Saints, who just like Abeleda, beat his opponent in two, recording scores of 6-1, and 6-0. D. Patten's scores in his singles match were the best recorded by a Saint on the day. 

Gerrard-Stace was third in line for the Saints. He recorded two amazing matches following D. Patten's suite, recording final scores of 6-1, and 6-1. His scores put him in second place for the Saints finishers on the day. 

Harper Dirks made his debut in the singles portion of today's match. He too finished his match in just two sets, finishing with scores of 7-5, and 6-3. 

Andy Shaffer (Buffalo, Minn./) also debuted today in the singles portion of today's match. After two well-fought sets, Shaffer finished his contest with scores of 4-6, and 4-6. 

Rounding out the Saints competitors for the day was Drew Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS). Anderson Debuted in the singles portion of today's match and was not able to bring his match to three sets, falling after two with scores of 4-6, and 2-6.

What's Next
The Saints (2-0, 1-0 MAIC) will travel to Virginia, Minn. to compete against the Pipers (1-3, 0-0 MIAC) of Hamline University. The Match will be held at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club, the match is scheduled for Saturday, February 15 at 4 P.M.
