ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Scholastica put together one of its most complete performances of the season on Saturday, rolling past Hamline 49-18 behind a balanced offensive attack and a strong finish on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Donald West (St. Paul, MN/Woodbury HS) led the way, throwing for 306 yards and five touchdowns while adding 58 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Andrew Burgess caught three of West's touchdown passes and finished with four receptions for 76 yards, while Teagen Lubinski (Crookston, MN/Crookston HS) hauled in six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown. Curtis Favors (St. Paul, MN/Tartan HS) added a 67-yard scoring strike on the Saints' first play of a second-quarter drive.
St. Scholastica finished with 537 total yards, including 208 on the ground. Eight different Saints recorded a rushing attempt, led by Christian Hoveland's (Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater HS) 61 yards on nine carries. The offensive line allowed just one sack, while the defense recorded four.
Hamline moved the ball through the air, with quarterback Zayden Stevens throwing for 339 yards and a touchdown, but the Saints came up with two interceptions and held the Pipers to 66 rushing yards. Dawson Schaffer led all Hamline receivers with 108 yards and a score.
The Saints led 14-6 after the opening quarter and took a 28-18 advantage into halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, St. Scholastica closed the game with 21 unanswered points in the fourth, highlighted by West's 20-yard rushing touchdown and back-to-back scoring drives capped by touchdown passes to Lubinski and Burgess.
With the win, the Saints improve to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
St. Scholastica will be on the road next Saturday, traveling to face St. John's on November 8 at noon.
