ST. PAUL, Minn. - The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team battled hard on the road Wednesday night but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to Macalester in MIAC play at Macalester Stadium.
After an early surge by the Scots, the Saints clawed back twice to make it a one-goal contest each time, showing grit and resilience throughout the match.
Macalester struck first just over a minute into the game when Adi Nhouyvanisvong found the net off a pass from Georgie LeWin-Mills. the Scots double their lead in the 17th minuted as Evelyn Savoie scored.
The Saints quickly responded in the 26th minute, when
Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, MN./Princeton HS) buried her second goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1. St. Scholastica carried that energy through the remainder of the first half, outshooting the Scots 8-5 in the frame.
After halftime, Macalester regained momentum with a goal from Maia Lemov in the 65th minute, assisted by Savoie. But just over a minute later,
Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) answered for the Saints, slotting home her team-leading fifth goal of the year off an assist from
Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS), bringing CSS back within one.
The Saints continued to press for the equalizer, earning five corner kicks in the second half and creating several dangerous chances, but couldn't find the back of the net before time expired.

Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) finished with four saves, all coming in the first half, while St. Scholastica matched Macalester with 13 total shots and six on goal.
With the result, the Saints move to 4-10-3 overall and 2-5-2 in MIAC play, while Macalester improves to 6-6-2 and 3-4-2 in the league.
St. Scholastica returns to action Saturday, Oct. 25th, when they return home to Kenny Harkins' Field to take on St. Mary's in a MIAC contest. Kickoff is at 3:30pm.
