DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica football team fell to Carleton College by a final score of 41-14 in its Homecoming game in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at Walt Hunting Stadium.
Senior quarterback Donald West (St. Paul, MN/Woodbury HS) and junior wide receiver Curtis Favors (St. Paul, MN/Tartan HS) connected for a 43-yard touchdown on the Saints' opening possession to give St. Scholastica an early 7-0 lead. Carleton responded with 24 straight points before West and Favors linked up again just before halftime to cut the deficit to 24-14.
Favors' second touchdown — a 21-yard reception with three seconds left in the second quarter — gave the Saints momentum heading into the break. But the Knights controlled the second half, scoring 17 unanswered points to pull away.
Carleton tallied five total touchdowns — three on the ground and two through the air — and added a pair of field goals from Marcus Merkelbach (40 and 25 yards). Jaden Coleman led the Knights with two rushing scores.
West finished with two touchdown passes, both to Favors, while senior kicker Jacob Andrews (Owatonna, MN/Medford HS) was 2-for-2 on extra point attempts.
With the loss, St. Scholastica moves to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Saints return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a MIAC road contest against Gustavus Adolphus College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
