DULUTH, Minn. - Coming off a 9-0 win against Crown College, the women's tennis team played another match at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center on Sunday afternoon against St. Catherine University. The Wildcats would take two out of three doubles points, and that would be enough to earn the 5-4 advantage as both teams earned three points in singles play each.
Doubles
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)) would fall to the No. 14 nationally/regionally ranked doubles team of Kelsey Dorr and Sofia Walker by a score of 8-2.
Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) and
Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala), captured a much-needed point, with a 8-2 win of their own.
The pairing of
Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Chloe Hasbargen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) saw an 8-1 defeat in the third slot
Singles
Maier and Dorr have had a heated rivalry, last season Maier was able to defeat Dorr, this time the Wildcat got the match, winning 7-5, 6-2.
Garcia handled her opponent, winning 6-4, 6-1 and Benitez got the 6-2, 6-4 win in the third spot.
Bartels earned a 6-4, 6-3 win and Sosa fell 6-4, 6-3 in her match.
Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) would play in the sixth spot, where she lost 6-2, 6-3.
