Softball Splits Home Doubleheader Against Gusties

Notables
Dail 2-3 AB, one run
Hadlich 2-3 AB, 3 RBI

DULUTH, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Softball team hosted the Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader, today, April 20th.

Game One CSS 2, GUS, 6
The game would start slow, through the top of the fifth, the Saints had three hits and Gusties recorded two. It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth inning, the Saints would strike first with two runs.

Payton Lang (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS), who would get on first coming from an error by the Gustavus shortstop. She would go on to advance to second after Aisland Dail hit a single. Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) would hit a double to left center, allowing Dail to advance to third, and Lang to score the Saints' first run of the day.

Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) would earn her first RBI, hitting a single and allowing Dail to score. The Gusties would bite back, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning, winning the game as the Saints would not match that in the bottom of the inning.

Ashley Matejka (Oak Forest, Ill./Carl Sandburg HS (Wartburg College)) pitched in game one for the Saints and would receive the loss, she pitched 6.2 total innings with three strikeouts and kept the Gusties scoreless for six innings.

Game Two CSS 2, GUS 0
The Saints would make their first at-bat count as Bolin would get hit by a pitch advancing to first to start. Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) would be up to bat next, she would reach first on a fielder's choice, Bolin would get to second off a Gustie error. Hadlich would earn her other two RBIs after hitting a single to left center once again. This would give Bolin and Breuer enough time to reach home and score two runs for the Saints.

The inning would end with the Saints getting three consecutive outs, but they would have a good lead going into the second inning. That lead would stay as the Saints would play excellent defense during their second matchup, not allowing the Gusties to score in the six remaining innings, taking the win with a final score of 2-0.

Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) picked up the win in the circle for the Saints, she threw a shutout, and only allowed six hits on the day.
