NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Softball Team traveled to Northfield to play St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader, today Saturday, April 13th.Â
Game One, CSS 1, STO 2
In typical Saints fashion, the Saints were the first team to score a run in the game. The first run was scored by Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) in the second, who would hit a single down center putting her safely on first. She would then reach second as a result of a fielder's choice, spotting an opportunity to advance, Dail would steal third base, and would go on to steal home, giving the Saints their first and only run of the day.
The Saints would have another scoring opportunity Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) singled, and Isabella Jack (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) was walked, but the Saints already had two outs due to a double play, the Oles would retire the next Saints batter.
The Oles would go on to score two runs to secure their win, both would come in the third inning, one right after another, giving the Oles the lead for the rest of the game. Your final score of the first game would be 2-1 in favor of the Oles.Â
Game Two, CSS 0, STO 4
Down 3-0 early, Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) would register the first hit in as she got on base with a single to left field, but the Saints wouldn't be able to capitalize.Â
In the fifth, Dail managed a double, and Megan Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) reached a base due to a St. Olaf error. With two runners on, the Oles would register another two more outs to keep the Saints from scoring.Â
The Oles would add another run in the bottom of the fifth, the game would end with St. Olaf taking game two, 4-0.
