Women's Tennis Goes 1-1 on Second Day of Florida

Orlando, Fla. - The College of St. Scholastica women's tennis team continued spring break matches with two against the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and Edgewood College. The Saints saw an 8-1 defeat in their first match against Mary-Hardin, before bouncing back with a 7-2 win against the Eagles. 

CSS 1, UMHB 8
The lone point would come from the No. 1 doubles team of Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)). They would get the 8-6 victory.

The Crusaders would take care of business in singles action. Garcia would fall atop of the lineup, 4-6, 2-6.

Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) would have a close match in the third slot but lost 3-6, 3-6.

CSS 9, EC 0
The Saints would come back from the defeat earlier and claim all three double points. 

Maier and Garcia earned the 8-2 win again, while Chloe Hasbargen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) and Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) claimed the tiebreaker 8-7 win.

Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) and Ritchie got the 8-6 victory in the final pairing.

The Saints would claim four of the six available points in singles play. Maier saw a 7-6, 6-2 win.

Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala), who was in the second spot, earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory

Although Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) saw a loss in the third slot, she battled hard, losing 10-7 in the final set.

Claire Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) captured a 6-4, 7-5 win and Eva Kangas (Grand Rapids, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy – Grand Rapids HS) earned the 6-4, 6-2 win.

The Saints will face Belhaven University tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., and now have a record of 7-5.
