ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team suffered a loss tonight in a matchup against the Royals from Bethel. After the Saints trailed by just five points at halftime, the Royals got hot in the third quarter, which propelled Bethel to a 68-55 victory over CSS this evening.
How it Happened
The Saints were able to grab an early lead in the opening quarter, as Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) delivered on a pair of three-pointers and Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) scored on a jumper to give CSS an 8-6 lead.
In the late minutes of the first quarter, Vaske scored on yet another jumper, followed by Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) scoring twice and an Imdieke jumper closed out the opening quarter for CSS leading 17-14.
CSS struggled to find the bottom of the net in the early minutes of the second quarter, but Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) put an end to the drought with a layup, as well as Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) scoring on a layup and a three-pointer, as the Royals took a 31-26 lead at halftime.
Lind scored two of the three field goals for the Saints in the third quarter, with a jumper by Voigt being the other, as the Royals were able to extend its lead to 51-35 heading into the final quarter.
Opening up the fourth quarter for the Saints was Hannah Compton (Anoka, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS), who scored her first field goal of the night on a layup off an assist from Lind.
Moments later, Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) and Lind would both score on layups, as Bethel still held a 14-point lead over St. Scholastica.
CSS brought the deficit to under double-digits after an Imdieke three-pointer and a Lind layup, with Bethel holding a 57-48 lead.
The Saints got late field goals from Vaske and Carlson, but the Royals came away with a 68-55 victory over the Saints this evening.
